USE TECHNOLOGY

Emerging technologies

After the often frustrating times in setting up. WiFi is the most important part of my assisting technology, with the exception of powerchairs, my full-time means of locomotion. While on the subject of powerchairs, these have developed considerably over the past years.

Wi-Fi used in conjunction with a smartphone, installed with various apps, allow me to operate a number of devices that would otherwise be out of reach for someone who has disabilities, similar to mine.

There are many other aids available to assist, depending upon one’s needs, and of course, their financial situation.

However, at this time, I find myself completely satisfied with the technology being used. As time passes, there could be some new requirements that need to be catered for.

Gardening from a powerchair. WiFi is used to turn/of water taps.

Without those aids, existence would be very bleak indeed.

Until next week.

Regards,

Ken.

Age 79 years, married 48 years, wife Marilyn, who, is now my carer as well. My means of getting around is a power-chair. Consequently, all of the tools that I require for most DIY tasks are maintained at chair level. Multiple Sclerosis is the cause of my challenges, and has proven to be a demanding taskmaster.
